I'm a Professor in the Department of Computing in the Division of Information and Communication Sciences at Macquarie University. My current research interests centre around intelligent text processing, natural language generation, and spoken language dialogue systems; see here for more information. You can peruse a list of the student projects I currently supervise. Or you can click the picture at right to see a random other image.
Here's a list of possible honours and masters projects for 2008.
Current roles:
I'm also a member of the executive committee of the Association for Computational Linguistics, and a member of the Conference Co-ordinating Committee of the Asian Federation of Natural Language Processing. I write a semi-regular column in the Journal of Natural Language Engineering called Industry Watch.
You can find out more about what I do at the following links:
Or you can read a short bio.
I'm always interested in talking to students who are fired up about doing interesting things with the computational processing of human language. If you're a top-performing undergraduate student, we may be able to find work for you on a research project; and if you're looking at doing a PhD and want to do first class work, we can find sources of funding. Find out how I approach supervision here.
