Abstract:
In this talk, I am going to present our current work on the Multex system.
Multex is a multilingual and multimodal text generator in the Penman tradition. A completely new implementation, it is designed to be a light-weight and practical content server. Topics to be covered in this talk include:
- the architecture of the Multex system: the meaning base linguistic engine, the modular-based generation algorithm, treatment of multilingual and multimodal information, programming environment;
- deployment of Multex in a content-service environment. I will discuss the HINTS system which uses Multex to create telegraph-like report of communicable disease outbreaks around the world;
- development environment.
I'd like to finish the talk by raising a more general question: what features does a text generator need to have in order to be accepted by the mainstream (ie. commercial) computing?
