In this talk, I am going to present our current work on the Multex system. Multex is a multilingual and multimodal text generator in the Penman tradition. A completely new implementation, it is designed to be a light-weight and practical content server. Topics to be covered in this talk include:

I'd like to finish the talk by raising a more general question: what features does a text generator need to have in order to be accepted by the mainstream (ie. commercial) computing?
