Abstract:
This talk will describe the ILEX system, a system developed for interfacing museum galleries to the Web. Descriptions of objects are generated on the fly, taking into account the objects the visitor has already seen, enabling comparisons, redundancy redunction, etc. The descriptions also vary according to the type of user using the system.
The talk will attempt to address the trade-off between systems which use more highly structured knowledge, and those using simpler representations, and template-based generation. The first tend to allow more flexibility in the generation process, while the latter tend to run faster, and may be quicker to develop. .
